4 nights Cycling Hadrians Wall from Newcastle The Quayside at Newcastle upon Tyne

ARRIVAL DAY: At Newcastle where arrangements can be made to have your luggage picked-up so that you are free to use your bikes to get around for the rest of the day. Your first and last nights’ accommodations are in the City of Newcastle. This large vibrant city has many places to see and visit. If there is not enough time today you will have another opportunity to check out Newcastle when you return here after the bike tour. There are many places to eat in the town from fish and chip shops to luxury restaurants. Overnight: Newcastle, England.

DAY ONE: Newcastle to Haltwhistle. Minimum cycling distance 14 miles (23 km). After breakfast you will be picked up from the guesthouse and taken with your bikes to the start of the cycle route in the middle of the Northumberland National Park that seems to have changed little since the days of the Romans. This area of outstanding natural beauty is perfect for cycling, riding along minor roads through the dramatic rolling Pennine Hills. It is not long before you reach the first of many Roman sites that you will encounter on this tour, allowing plenty of time to visit The Roman Army Museum near Haltwhistle. There are opportunities to add extra cycling miles to the day should you wish to, with circular rides leading from the main route to explore. Haltwhistle is your next overnight stop, a small market town set in the upper South Tyne valley with fish and chip shops and traditional pubs to enjoy an evening meal. Overnight: Haltwhistle, Northumberland, England.

4 night cycling the hadrians wall, england, Roman Fort at Corbridge.

DAY TWO: Haltwhistle to Hexham. Distance approx. 22 miles (35 km). The main Roman sites you will pass today are the Vindolanda Fort and Chesters Cilvrnvm Fort. Both have refreshments available for the hungry or thirsty cyclist. The route takes you along quiet roads lined by dry stone walls through the beautiful lush green Northumberland countryside. Leaving the South Tyne Valley the route crosses over to the North Tyne Valley to visit the impressive Roman Fort at Chesters.  This would be a good place to spend some time and possibly to have lunch. With only a short easy section to finish on today, this is a nice ride through broad leaved woodland to the busy market town of Hexham. With many places of interest in Hexham such as the Abbey in the shopping centre and a good selection of traditional pubs, restaurants and cafés, a good evening out is ensured. Overnight: Hexham, Northumberland, England.

DAY THREE: Hexham to Newcastle. Distance approx. 25 miles (40 km). Today the ride is very flat and easy, making for a perfect cycle ride, with the charming town of Corbridge the main place of interest on-route. This stone built town on the site of the Roman camp of Corstopitum is a real delight. The route continues following the River Tyne east, with beautiful Northumberland countryside all around you and many pretty little villages providing places to stop for refreshments or have lunch. The final section of the route joins a cycle way which is free from traffic.  This enjoyable section takes you right into the centre of Newcastle. There is the option of continuing on this cycle way another 10 miles to Tynemouth. Arrangements can be made to pick you up and return you to the guesthouse with your bikes. With many places of interest to see along the quayside with restaurants, cafés and bars this is an excellent place to enjoy a good evening out and celebrate completion of the tour. I work at The Fairmont Waterfront Hotel as General Manager and as such I
understand customer service and the need for a worry free vacation.

My wife and I decided on a cycling vacation in England. We researched the
trip we wanted to take (which ended up being the C2C route from Whitehaven to
Newcastle) After numerous hours researching tour companies we found Xplore
Britain and Richard Morris online.

We chose Xplore Britain over others because the Tours that Richard sets up are totally
flexible regarding departure times and daily distance and that allowed us to create our
own cycling vacation with guidance from Richard using his knowledge and
experience. Although we actually never met Richard until the last day through email
and phone contact he created a high level of trust. The accommodations he selected
were excellent, baggage movement from location to location was never an issue In
addition we chose not to bring our own bikes and relied on Richard to select the
appropriate bike for the trip again he didn't let us down The vacation as it turned out
was outstanding The value that Richard gave us made using him and his company
an easy decision when we started to plan this year cycling vacation. This trip will be
this June when we cycle the Coast to Castle route.

I have planned and executed several cycle trips for myself and for friends (in and
around Vancouver) and know the details that must go into the planning process, such
as Transportation, accommodations, luggage transfers, breakdowns etc. At first I had
though that through my previous knowledge of England and the use of guide books
etc that I could plan the UK trip on my own. I was very happy with the decision to hire
Richard as it provided us with a worry and stress free vacation all we had to do was
cycle and enjoy the scenery.
