Tour description

A two center self-guided cycle tour of the Cotswolds from Moreton-in-Marsh to Winchcombe in southern England. Tour includes 4 nights bed and breakfast in luxury en-suite accommodations, hire of a hybrid touring bike, transport to and from the Cotswolds, luggage transfers, route guide and maps. Emergency back-up will also be available.

Starting from the pretty little town of Moreton-in-Marsh, you are on the edge of the Cotswolds. The first day cycling is at an easy pace over the rolling hills through the beautiful countryside leading to the ancient town of Winchcombe, where you will stay for 3 nights. From Winchcombe there are a number of circular rides for you to choose from, varying in distance and difficulty. On the final day you head back to Moreton-in-Marsh on a completely different route through quaint Cotswold towns and villages. Then after returning your bikes (if renting) you can continue on your journey from Moreton-in-Marsh train station.

DAY ONE: Moreton-in-Marsh to Winchcombe. Distance approx. 18 miles (29 km). After breakfast you will begin the ride into the beautiful Cotswolds countryside. Heading west you reach the pretty villages of Batsford (with its arboretum) followed by Cutsdean. There are traditional pubs along the route to obtain refreshments or lunch. As you approach the ancient town of Winchcombe, Sudeley Castle and Gardens are well worth a visit. Winchcombe will be your base for the next 2 nights with many places to eat from traditional pubs to luxury restaurants. Overnight: Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, England.

DAY TWO: A 14 mile (23 km) circular ride called ‘Secret Cotswolds’. This is a hilly route that takes you through some of the quieter Cotswold villages, such as Hailes with its Cistercian Abbey. As this is only a short ride it allows plenty of time to enjoy the many attractions and spectacular views you will encounter as well as enjoying more of Winchcombe upon your return. The village of Brockhampton is your last chance for a lunch on this ride unless you have packed one, because the route takes you deep into the Cotswold Hills with only the occasional hamlet. As this is only a short ride it gives plenty of time to enjoy the many attractions you will encounter and after the ride explore the ancient town of Winchcombe. Overnight Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, England.

DAY THREE: Approx. 25 miles (40km) circular ride called Traditional Cotswolds. From Winchcombe it is about 4 miles to Toddington following a mainly flat route with an occasional climb. The route then takes you through beautiful Cotswold villages where you will find Snowshill Manor, Stanway House, a steam railway and lots of lovely views. About halfway round the route is Broadway which offers a teddy bear museum, specialty shops and a wide variety of restaurants and pubs. But remember you are only halfway, and there is still a lot to see as you return to Winchcombe. Overnight: Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, England.

DAY FOUR: Winchcombe back to Moreton-in-Marsh. Distance approx. 17 miles (27 km). Leaving Winchcombe it is a very nice ride through the villages of Guitings, Condicote and Broadwell.  Allow time to look around the larger town of Stow-on-the-Wold before returning to Moreton-in-March where you will pick up your luggage and continue your journey from the train station. Alternatively you could stay another night in Moreton-in-Marsh.

DEPARTURE DAY: You depart Moreton-in-Marsh after breakfast this morning.

Richard -

After stopping off in Wisconsin for a few days, we have now returned back to our home in Montana and begun settling in. I've finished cropping and editing all the pictures I took and they look great! We will review and remember our wonderful trip many times throughout the winter months and beyond. Fletchers should also be back home, and we'll get together this coming week to swap our stories of Reeth and the Cotswolds.

Doug and I just want to thank you again for organizing such a terrific trip! Your thoughtful attention to details in routing and lodging, and your personal care was so very much appreciated.

If ever we get the chance to return, or hear of anyone else planning such a trip, you can be assured that we will be contacting you.

I hope your fall season is enjoyable.
Thank you again.
Warm regards,
Mindy and Doug Ferrell
