SELF-GUIDED INDEPENDENT CYCLING TOURS This is based on A being the hardest and D being the easiest. The grading is for the overall tour, please read the daily description for each days ride giving the approximate minimum distance and details of the route. A lot will depend on the weather conditions (a head wind for instance) and your level of fitness. This information is only to give you an idea of the type of surface and the terrain you will be riding on, also the type of bike best suited for the route. Some of our tours that are in-between; for instance a tour graded D that has one day including some moderate climbs will be graded D+

GUIDED GRADE MODERATE (Scottish Highlands & Islands) The walking is at Moderate grade with up to 5 hours walking (9 miles) a day in combination with some wonderful ferry rides and visits to places of interest. Most of the walking is on paths, although these can be rough, stony and boggy in places.
The walks each day will be carefully chosen by the leader and will depend upon an assessment of factors; which include the weather, group fitness and deer stalking restrictions.
