Starting from the pretty little market town of Moreton-in-Marsh, you are already in the heart of the Cotswolds. The first days ride is nice and easy, over rolling hills through beautiful countryside to the ancient town of Winchcombe. This picturesque town of honey coloured shone buildings will be your base for 3 nights. Around Winchcombe there are a number of circular bike rides for you to choose from, varying in distance and difficulty. On the final day you head back to Moreton-in-Marsh on a completely different route though quaint Cotswald towns and villages. Then after returning your bikes you can continue on your journey from the rail station.
START and FINISH: Moreton-in-Marsh is just north of Stow-on-the-Wold.
ARRIVAL DAY: At Moreton-in-Marsh. Fitting out with your bike. Your 1st nights’ accommodation is in the middle of this pretty little market town close to the train station and bike hire shop. There are also many places to eat in the town from traditional pubs to luxury restaurants (not included). Overnight Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, England.
FIRST DAYS BIKE RIDE: Moreton in Marsh to Winchcombe. Distance approx. 14 miles (22km). After breakfast you would pick up the bikes from the shop and begin the ride into the beautiful Cotswolds countryside. Heading northwest you reach the pretty villages of Batsford (with its Arboretum) and then Cutsdean. There are traditional pubs along the route to obtain refreshments or lunch. As you approach the ancient town of Winchcombe there is Sudeley Castle and Gardens, well worth a visit. Winchcombe will be your base for the next 3 nights with many places to eat from traditional pubs to luxury restaurants (not included).Overnight Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, England.
SECOND DAYS BIKE RIDE: A 14 miles (22km) circular ride called Secret Cotswolds. This hilly route with spectacular views takes you through some of the quieter Cotswolds villages, such as Hailes with its Cistercian Abbey. The village of Brockhampton would be a last chance for a lunch stop because the route takes you deep into the Cotswold Hills with only the occasional hamlet. As this is only a short ride it gives plenty of time to enjoy the many attractions you will encounter and after the ride explore the ancient town of Winchcombe. Overnight Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, England.
THIRD DAYS BIKE RIDE: Approx. 25 miles (40km) circular ride called Traditional Cotswolds. From Winchcombe it is about 4 miles to Toddington, this a mainly flat route with occasional climbing. The route takes you through beautiful Cotswold villages where you will find Snowhill Manor, Stanway House, a steam railway and lots of lovely views. About halfway round the route is Broadway which has a Teddy Bear Museum, specialty shops and wide variety of restaurants and pubs. But remember you are only halfway, and there is still a lot to see as you return to Winchcombe. Overnight Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, England.
FOURTH DAYS BIKE RIDE: Winchcombe back to Moreton-in-Marsh. Distance approx. 17 miles (27km). Leaving Winchcombe the route dose start with a hill climb, but the fantastic views make the extra effort worthwhile, honesty! The route uses miner country roads through pretty villages like Guitings, Condicote, Broadwell and the larger town of Stow-on-the Wold. You will have plenty of time to look around these and many other places of interest as you have all day. Finishing up back at Moreton-in-Marsh where you can return your bike to the hire-shop and enjoy a relaxing last night of the tour. There are many places to eat in the town from traditional pubs to luxury restaurants (not included). Overnight Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, England.
