These terms and conditions were last updated on 23 February 2022. These conditions apply to all bookings and transactions made after this date.

Pricing shown for each tour is the minimum cost anticipated and may be subject to higher pricing if you are traveling in a higher tourist season. Our tours are intended to provide clients with a starting point to plan their trip. We specialize in working with our clients to customize the tours to their needs and desires. This can include adjusting the route, using different overnight stopping locations, adding extra nights, including train tickets, and suggesting optional activities to include in the tour.


With the continuation of the Covid 19 pandemic you MUST have a trip cancellation insurance policy OR fully accept that any deposit and final payments already made may be non-refundable.


When I start reserving rooms and booking taxis and luggage transfer for your tour I will have a contract with them to provide the service for you.

PRIVACY INFORMATION. We may share your name with our service providers to fulfill orders you place with us and to provide the services you request. We will use your name and our email and postal address when booking accommodation and services. We NEVER share your email or postal address with our service providers.

CANCELLATION or TRANSFER of BOOKING by XPLORE BRITAIN: We have never cancelled any pre-booked holiday with us. In the unlikely event that we have to make changes to a holiday, we will always provide the new service at an equal or greater value, and inform you of the change as quickly as we are able.


We strongly recommend that at the time of booking, you take out holiday insurance. The policy should cover the possibility of you having to cancel or change the dates of your trip with Xplore Britain.

REVIEW YOUR TRIP CANCELLATION POLICY AT THE TIME OF MAKING THE ORIGINAL BOOKING. You must purchase this policy yourself and its value should include your complete holiday payments before, during and after your holiday with Xplore Britain. We will presume that if you select not to take out trip cancellation insurance then you accept that you may be considerably out-of-pocket if you do cancel the Xplore Britain trip at a later stage.

Our independent inn to inn tours are quite complicated and time consuming to put together (and cancel if required). Each accommodation along the route will charge us the first nights bed & breakfast rate, whether you turn up or not. Any additional nights booked with them may only be refunded if they can re-let the rooms. When we have sent the complete tour package to you, all payments have been made and all of our booking services that you have requested have been provided. There is no refund payable by us after the tour package distribution date.

Any cancellation or change of existing booking must be made in writing and is effective from the date received at our office.

All your payments to Xplore Britain up to the start of the tour are used to pay deposits and final payments at all the places you stay at, for services required along the route and for our own services and overhead initiating your booking request. 

Any refund will always be made in Pounds Sterling either by a sterling cheque or by PayPal. Please be aware that in both cases if you transfer the payment into another currency account, your bank or PayPal will charge fees for this service.

View Travel and Medical Insurance options

As cycling holidays are active holidays you must be able to cycle the distances, or be able to arrange alternate transport modes yourself while on route should a change in your cycling ability occur.  Please ensure you have reviewed your travel and medical insurance to ensure you are adequately covered.

Booking a Holiday

The balance of your holiday must reach us 2 months before the start of the holiday; otherwise we cannot guarantee to hold your booking. Where a booking is made less than 2 months before the start day of the tour, the full amount is payable at the time of booking.

Payment for our tours is done through PayPal. You may also be able to pay by personal cheque made payable to "Xplore Britain". The cheque must be in Pounds Sterling. If you would like to pay by bank transfer we will provide the account information.  Please note; unless we have received full payment in sufficient time to verify the funds, your tour is NOT confirmed.

Package Tour Regulations: In accordance with "The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 Act" all monetary payments made to us for your holiday are held in a Clients Trust Account. This money is not available to Xplore Britain until the completion of your holiday, your cancellation or your written authorisation before the tour completion date.

Upon receipt of your booking we will reply with confirmation and the trip information sheet, usually within 7 days.

We strongly suggest taking out travel insurance at the time of booking. To be valid this must usually be made within 14 days of sending the deposit.

Booking a holiday from Overseas

We accept direct bookings from overseas, or from a Travel Agent. We require all payments to be settled in UK pounds sterling.  Due to currency fluctuations that can occur between the booking time and the receipt of final payment, we are no longer able to offer payments in alternate currencies.


We receive very few complaints. However should you have cause for dissatisfaction while you are on holiday please tell the accommodation immediately and Xplore Britain as soon as possible so that we can attempt to resolve the problem quickly.

What is included in the tour price?

The tour price includes value-added tax (VAT) at 20% where applicable. This is not refundable, because the VAT is for a service used within the EEC. On the self-guided independent tours, accommodation with breakfast is included.

Also included are cycling maps, a route description package (which may be a guidebook and/or printed notes), and the moving of luggage (where applicable) between overnight accommodations. 

The only meal included in the package price is breakfast.  If arrangements have been made for the provision of a dinner or a packed lunch at some point along the route these will be required to be paid for at the time of booking.

If you require money for public transport, which is not pre-paid, you will be advised of this in your route description instructions.

You will have additional charges for your own drinks, meals (other than breakfast), tourist site entrances, souvenirs, etc.  Please budget for these accordingly.

Linking Tours

If you are considering taking two or more tours, it is possible to travel between most tours by public transport in a day.  As our tours can be customized to suit your needs we will be very happy to work with you to come up with a full tour itinerary including arranging for any transfers that may be required between tours.  Many of our tours can also be linked together negating the need to organize a transfer between them. 

We recommend that you do not attempt to journey to either end of the country or to another country in a single day.

Group Tours

We often arrange activity tours for private parties and tour operators. Let us have details of your requirements.

Because of fire regulations please note the guesthouse accommodations we use on the independent tours are generally limited to 4 people.  If your group is larger we may occasionally be required to split the group between more than one guesthouse or use alternate accommodations such as larger inns or hotels.

I just wanted to let you know that we are back home and enjoyed ourtrip very much! Phillip was quite nice and took good care of us-He was on the downhill side of the Moorfoot Hills and it was a treat to see a friendly face. 
We saw him early on the last transfer day because he was getting an early start home as his wife went into the hospital-I hope she is well, please send him our regards.

I also want to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Duncan House-the room was so lovely and Jeff was an outstanding host. I was extremely impressed with the extra effort he put into making our stay comfortable.

My husband had never done a cycle tour before, and he is sold-we will definitely travel that way again and he is already talking about the Highlands!
